60年代初期，英國有一部關於間諜的電視影集《Danger Man》，後經美國電視公司引進播放，除改名為《Secret Agent》，也重新更換片頭曲，此首《Secret Agent Man》即是為此而寫，但當時錄製的片頭曲長度只有15秒。 ( 此片當年台視也有引進，譯名為《無敵情報員》。)



投機者樂團 ( The Ventures ) 聽到此曲的示範帶後，即錄製此曲的吉他演奏版，並於1966率先發行，進入了告示牌熱門100排行榜 ( # 63 )。緊接著，片頭曲的原唱者，美國搖滾歌手Johnny Rivers的演唱版也在同年進榜，並一路飆升到了第3名。



聽此曲很容易讓人聯想到以James Bond為主角的007電影 ( 其中有幾部好像有引用此曲？ )。據說Johnny Rivers當時並不是很喜歡這首歌，而後來卻成為了他的招牌歌之一。
