在學校的穿堂上，左右兩邊寫著：「處處發生疑問」、「竭力探求答案」，對我以後的影響非常的大；又在穿堂的公佈欄裡，每天都會張貼當天的《國語日報》，大概是在四年級開始，每天的第二節下課後，休息時間比較長〈20分鐘〉，我就會出現在那裡，看「五百字故事」，天天如此，不懂的字，回到教室查字典，這對於我的中文能力，有相當大的助益。
當時國小在五、六年級，都有所謂的「惡補」，目的就是在於升學，考「初中」〈目前的國中〉，我家貧窮，哪裡會有補習費？因此我被編入「放牛班」，在六年忠班我的成績最好，成為“班長”；躲避球校隊，我是隊長、、、反正是：不要升學的放牛班嘛！
