What is my dream?

What is my dream? It sounds like a simple question, doesn’t it? A year ago or couple of months ago, my wish was to have a stable and heavy family. My wish was airy which does not provide me long term goal and target. I realized that this is my “wish” only, but not my dream.

Recently, I watched a movie named “Ice Princess”, which describes a talented girl who gained an opportunity to study at a reputable college. However, she realized that was not her dream, but her mother’s dream. She worked so hard in the past, because of her mum and she finally realized she would like to skate on ice. She gave up the valuable chance and chose to be a skater. Her acts seem ridiculous, but reasonable.

I had thought deeply and I remembered something I said when I was a child. “I would like to be a Mechanical Engineer” “I want to make airplanes.” young Joao Wong said. I think this thought guided me to this point. What a innocent young child? A boy who didn’t even know what engineers do, who didn’t even know what is mechanical, but he dared to tell his mum and made a silly promise of becoming an mechanical engineer.

Life always pushes us to make some decisions that guide us away form our dream. Months ago, I was thinking to change my career path. I thought I should try to work in the bank, become a inspector or what ever that makes more money that doing engineer in Hong Kong. I learnt about the industry when I was studying associate degree in building service engineering. The industry scared me or I should say I sacred to become a poor engineer who may not be able to take care my family. I hate the poor time that my family and I had experienced.

Boeing gave me a hope to continue my dream on becoming an engineer of aerospace industry. However, Boeing is not going to hire me. What a disappointing message? But that make sense when it is a business decision. Unless I am a specialist that Boeing cannot find in United State, Boeing will not hire a foreigner. After two weeks from receiving the message, I feel better now and I know exactly what I should do in the future.

Although it is very hard to become an engineer in Cathay Pacific, I must try my best. I can foresee I am unlikely to succeed since I am not a guy who will win a lucky draw. I am not kidding, that is a lucky draw. It is not a competition that only depends on your talent and hard working, but include luck. I will give myself one more chance to try after my graduation. I said once, because I am responsible to take care my family and once you started your career, it is hard to change to chance to another in Hong Kong where engineering industry is saturated.

No matter what will happen, no matter what my future career will be, I had experienced to work as an engineer in the aerospace industry. I must give wholehearted thanks to Cathay Pacific and Boeing that provided me a Valuable chance to work in Boeing Everett – A place that festinated me and a place I will never forget.
