眼看老虎隊要製造大局，太空人隊5局下演出三殺守備，精采化解危機，終場太空人3比2擊敗老虎，菜鳥投手Lance McCullers贏得生涯第1勝。

此戰的關鍵在5局下，老虎隊James McCann先敲二壘打，José Iglesias再擊出內野安打，Anthony Gose擊出二壘方向滾地球，太空人二壘手José Altuve傳球失誤，老虎攻下超前的第2分，以2比1領先，此時老虎沒人出局，一、二壘有跑者。

眼看老虎隊有可能製造不可收拾的大局，太空人總教練 A.J. Hinch說我們有麻煩了，當時沒人出局，牛棚投手已開始準備，我們還有很多事情要作，就在此時，(Ian) Kinsler打到幾乎完美的地方。

Ian Kinsler擊出靠近三壘壘包旁的滾地球，太空人三壘手Jonathan Villar接到球後順勢踩三壘壘包，接著將球傳二壘、再傳一壘，是「5-4-3」的三殺守備，這是太空人隊史自2004年之後再次演出三殺守備，這個精采守備化解了大危機。

演出三殺守備之後，太空人隊士氣大振，6局上2出局之後，Preston Tucker、Chris Carter、Jason Castro連敲安打，打回1分，2比2追平，老虎隊換下先發投手Kyle Lobstein，由Al Alburquerque接替投球，太空人隊Marwin González又敲出安打，打回超前的第3分，終場太空人就以3比2贏球。

太空人隊先發投手Lance McCullers投6局被擊出6支安打失2分，三殺守備幫了大忙，他拿下生涯第1勝，Luke Gregerson投1局救援成功（11救援），老虎隊Kyle Lobstein先發5.2局失3分，吞敗投（3勝5敗）。
