Joe Walsh有位朋友Barry De Vorzon，於1979替在開拍的電影《The Warriors》( 台譯：殺神輓歌 ) 負責音樂的部份，邀Joe Walsh一起來為電影寫歌，也就是這首《In the City》。電影內容講的是黑幫小混混被栽贓謀害黑幫頭子，在離開城市返鄉時遭到追殺的故事。歌曲所述的主題和內容其實並不怎麼適合Eagles，但Eagles頗喜歡此曲，而將之重新錄製 ( 當然還是由Joe Walsh主唱 )，並收錄在1979的專輯《The Long Run》中。

 

此曲雖未另發行單曲，卻成為美國一些播放專輯歌曲的電台 ( 之前的電台基本上只播單曲 ) 喜歡播放的曲目。對Joe Walsh來說，此曲也是他在日後演唱會中的必唱曲。
