此曲為老鷹合唱團的Don Henley ( 鼓手 )、Glenn Frey ( 主唱兼吉他手 ) 以及和J. D. Souther共同所作，J. D. Souther雖非Eagles的成員，但三人常在一起創作歌曲，像是Eagles的《Heartache Tonight》、《New Kid in Town》等，這三人猶如死黨般的交情，要從Eagles成立前說起。
1968，19歲的Glenn Frey在底特律和女子樂團The Mama Cats ( 後改名為Honey Ltd. ) 的團員Joan Sliwin交往，之後該團前往加州發展，Frey為了能和女友繼續保持連絡，隨後也去到了洛杉磯。當時，女友Joan Sliwin的妹妹Alex Sliwin ( 也是HoneyLTD.的團員 ) 正在和J. D. Souther交往 ( 後在1969嫁給了Souther，但在1972離婚。)，因此介紹了Souther與Frey認識。看來倆人十分投緣，不久共組了二重唱團體Longbranch Pennywhistle，並簽入了Amos唱片公司旗下。而Frey會認識Don Henley，是因為Henley當時也是Amos公司簽約的團體成員，因為常同在西好萊塢的Troubadour夜總會演唱，也算是曾在一起渡過不少時光。

1971，美國流行女歌手Linda Ronstadt要辦巡迴演唱，由於Glenn Frey會彈空心吉他及合音，被召募為伴唱樂隊的成員。Don Henley因Frey的關係，也成為了伴唱樂隊的鼓手，並在巡迴期間與Frey為同房間的室友。另，Randy Meisner和Bernie Leadon也受僱於此伴唱樂隊，由於樂手經常來去更換，其實四人只有在Disneyland的演唱會同場過，而Frey和Henley決定邀此倆人共組樂團，這也是Eagles組成的由來。

至於J. D. Souther為何未加入Eagles？原因之一可能是在和Frey搭檔時，對於作音樂的風格有些理念不合。而當時，Souther和Linda Ronstadt應該已開始有了感情關係，Souther於1972離婚，隨後和Linda Ronstadt同居在一起，至1974倆人分手。以邏輯推論，在當時的氣氛下，Souther只要專注替已具名氣的女友Ronstadt寫歌，即可輕易搏取名利，怎還會有閒功夫參加前景未卜的樂團？另，顯然他是想朝向個人歌手發展。
此首《Best of My Love》為Eagles第3張專輯《On the Border》中的歌曲，單曲於1975衝上了排行榜的No. 1，也是Eagles的第一首冠軍曲，意義非凡。
從2000年起，Glenn Frey為類風濕性關節炎所苦，後採藥物控制，但又引發了腸炎及肺炎。2016年1月，Glenn Frey病逝於紐約—長老會醫院。少了Glenn Frey，Eagles的原音重現，也自此成為了絕響。
