在婚姻生活中，遭到對方不忠背叛，恐怕都是令人難以忍受的事。而在一般的印象中，西方人在處理這類問題時似較為理性。就像歌曲中的這位老兄，為了家庭努力打拼，卻在某日工作回家晚了，發現妻子對他不忠 ( 這部份並未清楚的交待 )，然後將衣物收一收，出去另外找了個地方過夜，第二天一上班，就找了他的秘書Maria，打了一封信通知他的老婆 ( 副本寄給律師 )，說他不會再回家，要展開新生活，意思當然就是要和老婆辦離婚。可是當寫信這件事才做完，這位老兄就開口要約Maria吃晚餐………。

此曲為美國靈魂歌手R.B. Greaves自寫自唱之作，1969在告示牌熱門排行榜拿下了第2名的佳績，也獲頒銷售超過50萬張的「金唱片」。事實上，到1970總銷售量超過了250萬張。此曲的翻唱者有Anthony Armstrong Jones(1970)、New Riders of the Purple Sage(1975)、Doug Stone(1999)等，雖然也有入榜，但成績均不如原唱版本。
