上一篇談到Buddy Holly於Feb 2,1959意外墜機身亡，而同行的還有另外兩位音樂人Ritchie Valens和以綽號The Big Bopper聞名的J. P. Richardson。之後，美國歌手兼作曲家Don McLean在其1971著名的歌曲《American Pie》中談到此悲劇，後引用該曲歌詞將此不幸事件稱為「The Day the Music Died」。




Ritchie Valens為墨裔美籍歌手，年紀輕輕，卻已有幾首暢銷曲，像是《 Donna》、《Come on Let's Go》等，而其最著名的當然就是1958翻唱自墨西哥民謠的《La Bamba》了，此曲在滾石雜誌歷來最佳500首歌曲中排名第354。或也由於此曲，Ritchie Valens成為了Chicano rock ( 墨式搖滾？) 的鼻祖。

《La Bamba》常被其他歌手翻唱，其中最出名的應該是Los Lobos樂團在1987為同名電影《La Bamba》所唱插曲的版本，該版本在英美的排行榜均奪得了冠軍。

此首《We Belong Together》雖為Ritchie Valens1959的翻唱曲，卻為其暢銷曲之一。若硬要穿鑿附會，此歌名似也有些不祥 ( 大家作伙亡？)。The Day the Music Died  ---  Ritchie Valens意外身亡時才年僅17歲，的確也相當地令人感到惋惜。
