http://www.cca.gov.tw/children/feature/9103s.html

Uncle Jed’s Barbershop by Margaree

Borreguita and the Coyote by Verna Aardema

What's a little lamb to do about a fierce coyote that wants to eat her? Why, trick him, of course... and trick him again.. and trick him one more time! Here's a lively retelling of a Mexican folk tale by master storyteller Verna Aardema.

Borreguita is a little lamb who manages to trick the coyote who wants to eat her not just three but four deliciously satisfying times: she suggests that she'll grow if he waits; she describes the moon's reflection as a cheese, so that he jumps into a pond; she cajoles him into taking her place ``hold[ing] up this mountain'' while she goes for help; and, finally, she bravely volunteers to jump right into the coyote's mouth so that he can swallow her in one gulp--with the result that poor Coyote, his teeth aching, vows to leave the wily lamb alone henceforth.

Aardema, a practiced teller of tales, paces this saga expertly and tells it with pleasingly sly wit. Mathers contributes her exquisite sense of design and luminous color, while focusing on the story's drama and humor and the contrast between the innocent-looking lamb and her obtuse antagonist. A fine story; outstanding illustrations. (

2. 從中得到情緒的紓解:例如,《Mommy Go Away》by Lynne Jonell/Petra Marthers

PreS. Christopher must always do as his mother requests, as she is much bigger than he. But w hen she insists he take a bath, he tells her to "go away" on his small toy boat. When she points out that she is too big to get in the boat, he sees this as an opportunity to take control and wills her to "be small." The bathtub becomes a choppy sea, and the woman expresses her fears about being so small and helpless in the boat, but her son is there tubside to help and urge her on. When she demands to be made big again, the youngster assents, satisfied that she can now empathize and understand that it isn't easy being small. Childlike stick figures, the inconsistent sizing of parent and child, and the simplistic text are all effective in helping readers see the world through young eyes. The illustrations are an interesting mix of pastels and deep colors, and have rich, appealing textures. This story will draw a smile from independent preschoolers who hope the adults in their lives can remember what it means to be small.?Lucy Rafael,

Jonell turns the tables on parental authority and childlike obedience in a terrific story of a boy and his mother. ``Pick up your blocks,'' ``No more T.V.,'' and ``Time for your bath'' are the phrases that set off a small boy's protests. Christopher declares, ``Go away, Mommy!'' and offers his toy boat for her to ride in. She protests that she's too large, and so, ``Be small,'' he commands. She obligingly shrinks and is set afloat in the tub, where she expresses a list of fears about what's happening to her. Several other mothers appear in a small motorboat on the bathwater horizon, and Christopher admonishes her to have a good time, remember her manners, and don't hit the others. He endearingly reassures her that he will help her; the mother, once restored to size, sighs that it is hard to be small. ``I know that already,'' Christopher replies. Mathers uses the simplest of illustration styles: The people are almost stick figures--but their postures are wonderfully expressive--and the scenes, intentionally naive yet showing intelligent composition, resemble children's crayon scrawls, done with flat perspectives. A highly original book that will strike a chord in every child's experience, and one that parents will enjoy immensely.

4. 培養美學的鑑賞力:例如,《A Woggle of Witches》by Adrienne Adams

What happens when a woggle of witches goes out for the night
I first remember hearing the term "woggle" to refer to a type of insect that L. Frank Baum wrote about (see "The Woggle-Bug Book: The Unique Adventures of the Woggle-Bug"). Here the term "woggle" refers to a medium-sized group of witches. This is just one of the very interesting things that Adrienne Adams has found out about witches. I did not know that witches liked to sleep in cozy hammocks in the branches of trees or that there are things that scare even them. Each of the double-page spread in this book tells of what happens one night when the witches go out for fun. "A Woggle of Witches" is a simple little tale, which should amuse small children and reassure them that witches are really more scared of them (at least on Halloween night).

This is a charming book for Halloween reading pleasure with double page illustrations and minimal text that still packs in plenty of humor and spooky fun. Meet the witches deep in the heart of the dark forest as they wake up to celebrate that certain night! Scoop a little bat stew out of the bubbling cauldron and then grab your broomstick for some ace flying. The joyful faces on this woggle of witches as they cut loose with their Halloween hijinx are sure to make you smile, too. But what's this?! The witches get "spooked" by some trick-or-treaters that send them flying back home to the forest. A great time is had by all. I love the exciting atmosphere of celebration that this book creates with so few words.
