舒伯特18歲的作品

歌德的詩：

少年看見紅玫瑰，原野上的紅玫瑰，
多麼嬌嫩多麼美；急急忙忙跑去看，
心中暗自讚美，玫瑰，玫瑰，原野上的紅玫瑰。

少年說我摘你回去，原野上的紅玫瑰。
玫瑰說我刺痛你，使你永遠不忘記，我決不能答應你！
玫瑰，玫瑰，原野上的紅玫瑰。

歌德22歲作品

學校裡擔任教師的舒伯特，上數學課時，在黑板上寫下2/4這個分數，
忽然間，他完全忘了面對著他的學生，腦中浮現的儘是為歌德的詩所寫的旋律。
不多久，一首十四小節甜美的「野玫瑰」便誕生了。

舒伯特非常高興，便和學生們一起唱這首歌。校長先生正好經過教室門口，看見這個情形立刻當著學生數落舒伯特：「數學課的時間不上算術，你這是做什麼？」

荒郊野生紅玫瑰，和露開得花滿枝，艷麗原非為人賞，嬌態卻被頑童窺。

自古美物為人愛，遭多橫奪苦摧折，玫瑰其奈頑童何。

頑童但求孤意遂，指尖刺破心無悔，從此紅顏落萬劫，露滴盡作落淚垂。

從來折花但稱心，不憐花芳心碎，可嘆悲運清晨臨，荒郊野生紅玫瑰。
