啤酒有助於保護大腦免於阿茲海默氏症?

While the health benefits of wine are widely known, a new study brings light to an ingredient in beer that may fight Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.當酒的健康效益廣為人知時,一項新研究揭露了啤酒中,一種可能對抗阿茲海默氏症及帕金森氏症的成分。

 

A compound found in beer called xanthohumol (Xn), has already been shown to have anti-inflammatory and cancer effects and now researchers believe the compound may protect the brain from diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s as well.

一種在啤酒中所發現,被稱為黃腐酚(Xn)的化合物已經被證實,具有抗發炎及癌腫的功效。因此,目前研究人員們認為,該種化合物可能保護大腦免於諸如阿茲海默氏症及帕金森氏症等疾病。

 

The team of researchers from Lanzhou University in China believe that Xn can guard the brain against oxidative stress, which is a contributing factor in the development of neurodegenerative diseases. Lead researcher Jianguo Fang said that, “In traditional Chinese medicine, hops have been used to treat a variety of ailments for centuries. The presence of a high concentration of Xn in beers might be linked to the epidemiological observation of the beneficial effect of regular beer drinking.”

該來自中國蘭州大學的研究人員團隊認為,Xn能防止大腦免於氧化壓力,這是罹患神經退化性疾病的部分因素。首要研究員Jianguo Fang宣稱:「在傳統中醫中,啤酒花一直被用來治療各種疾病,達幾世紀。啤酒中存在高濃度的Xn可能與經常喝啤酒之有益功效的流行病學觀察結果被聯繫起來。

 

Xn has also attracted considerable interest because of its multiple pharmacological functions, including anti-oxidation, cardiovascular protection, anti-cancer and cancer chemo prevention, antivirus, anti-obesity, and anti-inflammation.

由於Xn的多種藥理學作用,包括抗氧化、保護心血管、抗癌腫與化學性預防癌腫、抗病毒、抗肥胖及抗發炎,因此也一直引起不少關注。

 

A 2008 study published in “Food and Chemical Toxicology,” found that the silicon in beer may actually protect the brain from possible harmful effects of aluminum. By giving mice both an aluminum compound and beer, researchers found that silicon in “moderately high” levels (approximately two beers per day) protected the brain from the damage caused by aluminum.

2008年發表於《食品暨化學毒物學》期刊的一項研究發現,啤酒中的矽竟然能保護大腦免於鋁可能的有害作用。藉由給予老鼠某種鋁化合物及啤酒,研究人員們發現,約每天兩瓶啤酒具有之適度高含量的矽,保護了大腦免於鋁造成的傷害

 

While studies do support the idea that moderate consumption of alcohol may have brain boosting benefits it is important to note that beer is not a nutritional alternative to healthy eating choices.

儘管諸多研究的確證實,適量飲酒能具有強化大腦的效益。不過特別指出啤酒不是健康飲食可供選擇的營養替代物。

 

Beer is known to have nitrates, which are actually thought to aid in the  development of Alzheimer’s and harm brain health. Furthermore, the Alzheimer’s fighting benefits of beer only occur in moderate consumption and need to take into consideration the age and gender of the person drinking.

已知啤酒具有硝酸鹽實際上硝酸鹽被認為會助長罹患阿茲海默氏症,及傷害大腦健康。此外,啤酒抗阿茲海默氏症地效益,僅發生於適量飲用時。因此需將飲用者年齡及性別納入考量。

 

Overall, the risks of drinking moderate to large amounts of beer far outweigh the health benefits.

總體說來,飲用中到大量啤酒的風險遠超過健康效益
