Wan-Chen and I tool DFDS Seaways from Copenhagen to Oslo on May 16 afternoon just because we were going to participate in the celebration of National Independence in Norway on May 17. Wan-Chen felt quite excited because this was her first time to take the ferry for traveling. Ha! As for me, I felt ok because it was my third time. But, how could I just let myself feel only ok? So, to bring more excitement for myself, I thought that this route was special because it was going to cross the North Sea. I always felt fun to experience something I had learned from books. I may well say that if I could experience what I had learned from books, I would naturally feel happier because I did not only learn something from books.
During the time on the ferry, Wan-Chen and I enjoyed our supper next to the window. There would not have sunset till 9 p.m. because now was spring time. So, while we were enjoying our supper, both of us were waiting for the view of sunset. How romantic we were! After that, both of us also appreciated the view of Sweden just on our right-hand side. Then, before we took a rest in our cabin, both of us took a look at the tax free shop and had a walk to other floors. Hehe…we two girls enjoyed a lot on the ferry and had a nice and long female talk on that night, too.
Next morning, we arrived at Oslo around 8 p.m. smoothly. I asked Wan-Chen “Was it true this was Oslo?” “I could not believe it” She replied, “Shirley, I felt strange, too.” “But, it was indeed our destination, Oslo.”
Then, we met Wan-Chen’s senor friend in central station, who was an exchange student in Oslo. Three of us bought some stuff to decorate ourselves to take part in this joyful national holiday. Wan-Chen bough a Norwegian flag, while her senior friend bough a pin with certain ornament for his suit. For me, due to the hot weather, I bought a cap with some symbols of Norway. After this, three of us happily had a walk along the route of parade.
Three of us were trying to take as more pictures as we could because it was really special to see the way Norwegian celebrated their Independence holiday. There were hundreds of groups from different schools, playing music and doing the marching at the same time. To my surprise, even old people and kindergarten kids joined this parade, too. In addition, most of them wore their traditional Norwegian dress. With music and people everywhere, this event was high to the top.
In the afternoon, we took a rest in Wan-Chen senior friend’s place, and we ate fried rice noodles made by him. Kind Wan-Chen also made an Italian cake- Krusadata. YamYam! Lucky Shirley not only tasted delicious food then but also learned how to make fried rice noodle and Krisadata cake. All in all, I had great fun in Oslo and had great time with Taiwanese friends.
