丹麥奧登斯之旅

On May13, I spent 208DKK from Copenhagen to Odense by train alone. Odense was located in Jutland(日德蘭半島), which was the hometown of Hans Christian Andersens and Carl Neilsen. So, my aim to visit this place was to visit these two persons’ museums and their hometown.

If you ask me who HC Andersens is, I might ask you if you remembered reading fairy tales like Little Mermaid, the ugly Duckling, or Emperor’s New Suit in your childhood. If yes, I was sure you have already known who he was because he was the most well- known and popular writer. His works have been translated into many languages in the world. Of course, his works have been loved by thousands of children. I may say he is children’s favorite. Here is a funny website that is good for children. (http://www.andersenfairytales.com/en/main)

If you ask me how about Carl Neisen, I would tell you directly that he was the most famous Danish composer. Carl Neisen (1865-1931) was born in Sortelung, not far from the city of Odense. Even though he was born of a relatively poor family, he still learned violin and piano as a child. Later, he learned violin and music theory in Copenhagen Conservatory, but he never took normal lessons about composition. Anyway, he tried to compose later on. It took some time for him to gain recognition from others. All in all, he was the most renowned composer in Denmark.

After visiting these two museums, I had a walk around the main street in Odense. There were lots of shops for me to take a look at. Later, I found a land next to the main street, in which lots of Danish flags were hung in the air. To my curiosity, I made a turn and had a walk there. Surprisingly, I found many special European style coffee shops, restaurants and smalls shops and an Italian designed lamp shop there. Once in a while, I heard the bellring and birdsong somewhere in the air. Bathed in this kind of environment, I was almost deeply touched. I felt that I gain more spiritually from something simple instead of the famous scenic spots I used to visit.

In conclusion, today’s trip to Odense was great to me, and I would also remember that this was my first time to take the train alone in the foreign country.

(P.S From this picture, you can feel that Andersen is a funny guy. He likes to do many gestures in front of the mirror. He said it’s one of his favorite hobbies.)
