Entering the Kings Canyon National Park

我有一張從學生時代就有的進入國家公園永久許可證。之前在優勝美題國家公園進出也沒有問題，這一次卻因為不是美國公民在這裡被沒收了。還要付費入園。心裡好捨不得。不過我不是公民這是事實，想到這裡心裡就好過一些。
At the park entrance, I loss my park entrance permit, because I am not a US citizen. I have to pay $20 entrance fee. This permit is always my privilege, now I don’t own it anymore.

我們很快就找到遊客中心。這裡安靜地如無人之境一般，大家都交頭低語，微笑點頭。這和優勝美題國家公園的歡樂喧鬧大異其趣。這麼安靜的環境並沒有吸引我下車一探究境的情緒，最後是因為想到這是這一輩子最後的調查工作才下車。看過遊客中心、檢查了住宿區、觀察了一下戶外用餐區和商店區，才發現這裡才是渡假放鬆得好地方。這裡真的安靜地令人發呆，連嬰兒都安靜得出其令人意外。在遊客中心請服務人員幫忙解說和安排路徑之後，我們開車到
Lodgepole Visitor Center，開始這一天的調查工作。

Our first stop is the King Canyon Visitor Center at the Grant Grove Village. At the center area, there are information counter, post office, shops, restaurants, and lodging areas. It is quiet here. The atmosphere is so different to the Yosemite National Park. It seems that people come here to have a peaceful moment with nature, but then the visitors at Yosemite National Park more like to having each other for fun. Here people talks softly, and moves slowly. In Yosemite, people dash around, laughing and screaming.

這才是真正享受大自然的度假方式，住在樹林中。Hey, what a life. 住在樹林下的遊客會擔心半夜熊來拜訪嗎?

在Lodgepole Visitor Center，我特別問工作人員是否有輪椅也可以通行的步道，我想試試。他建議我們先搭公車繞一圈看看，然後在the Sherman Tree Trail 和 the Giant Forest Museum兩站下車，這樣差不多就要一天的時間了。我很關心視障者的解說系統，同時也很想知道美國國家公園是如何落實解說指南的建議。我忍不住又再一次問這裡的解說員，很遺憾他並不清楚解說指南的內容，加上今天是星期日高層都不上班。最後他給我解說部門高層主管的聯絡方式，等上班日我會試著與他聯絡。

We park our car here and start the shuttle trip. We take shuttle bus to the Sherman Tree Trail and the Giant Forest Museum.
