My mother was visiting recently and during our mother-daughter shopping time I discovered something interesting. The majority of the stores I made a purchase at asked me if I'd like to get on the mailing list. That is very smart.

Suddenly I WANTED to be on that email list, especially when the salesman told me it was included with certain benefits, such as early notice on new arrivals, an individual buying service, and private trunk shows.
And do you know what? I'd have also paid-to engage in that - to be viewed as a VIP.
You see, people WISH to be part of something specific like e-zine promotion. The example above was free. But don't underestimate how much your customers or customers will PAY to do that, sometimes.
Example: A buddy of mine recently contributed he gives $15,000.00 per year to fit in with the President's Club of the local playhouse, although he and his wife might attend each show there just for $150.00. Why would a good faithful attendee desire to spend 100 times more? Particular therapy like preferred seating, valet parking, encourages to VIP functions, personal restaurant for members only, networking with a higher-level of people, an such like.
