There has been a virtual explosion of social network web sites in the past few years. Even the big players like Google, Yahoo and MSN are receiving into it.

With therefore much curiosity about how social networks work, one begins to wonder when there is marketing potential within these social networks?

I've been seeing social networking for quite a while now. In fact I am an associate of numerous social-networking sites including http://www.myspace.com/ and https://www.linkedin.com just to name two.

I joined partly because I wanted to see what they were, but more importantly to see on SEM what effect social media might have in the coming years.

I've been an associate of numerous ser-vices for some time and the reach these sites have is outstanding.

For instance, from my LinkedIn network of eight people I've an expanded network of over 12,600 people.

Imagine that - I'm merely a click or two away from close to 13,000 other folks who share my similar interests ranging from what I like to watch on TV to work I could give to them.

Through their connections and my connections, I'm connected to people starting from the American Cancer Society, to Sun Microsystems to the University of Texas to Google.

But what marketing possibilities are there for Social Networking?

Well, let's examine MySpace.

MySpace is among the top sites on line today. It racked up 9.4 billion page-views in August 2005 (significantly more than Google) and new users are signing up at-a rate of 3.5 million per month.

MySpace is typical of where todays 18-30 year-old goes to manage their digital life. I-t allows users to post photographs of themselves and their friends, produce a website, list their favorite groups, watch and share videos, suggest things to do and lists a couple of people they consider friends. It's with this 'Friends List' where the majority of the opportunities lie.

All forty million plus customers of MySpace have a friends page that lists people that person thinks their friend. This really is a list of people who they are interested in talking to and about, as well as hearing from on a regular basis. When you add somebody as your friend they can send you emails, discuss your photographs, study your sites, in addition to abandon messages that you can then tell others. This really is the opportunity for instant feedback about you.

The capacity to include friends to your site is key for advertising to MySpace people. In accordance with Courtney Holt, mind of new media and strategic marketing at Interscope Records, 'This technology is growing up without having ever watched programmed media. For extra information, please check out: sponsors. 'They don't think in terms of-the record, and they do not think in terms of a TV schedule. They think in terms of TiVo, P2P, AOL, and of-course MySpace.

You can see how this might grow.

Let us say you create a MySpace account to talk about your product or service. You blog about it and search for your interests that may be shared by others. Get extra info on our favorite partner wiki - Click here: advertisers.

Afterward you ask them to be your friend. If they develop into a friend you start your 'comfortable sell' selling your product to them.

As they grow to understand it, they start blogging and discussing it. Quickly thousands or even thousand of people are talking about you and your product or service.

Do not think this can work?

I'd like to give you a few examples. There are many artists who have gotten their start MySpace. We learned about buy twitter.com/chrisbrummerdr by searching newspapers. By simply hosting a few of their music online and blogging about themselves they developed a following. Soon they had document deals and contracts lined up.

Obviously to-use services like MySpace you need to get anything this marketplace needs. If you don't then you probably shouldn't put a lot of energy into MySpace.

But that will not mean other social media opportunities ought to be overlooked. When I stated earlier, Linked-in is more of a specialist introduction service. If your service or product meets here then by all means examine it further.

And there are others as well. Companies for example Flickr, Yahoo!s MyWeb, http://del.icio.us and more.

So if you have ever wondered what other online options might be out there, con-sider social-networking. Maybe it's the next great internet marketing channel..
