潘懷宗/ 能量提神飲料會越喝越累？
「你累了嗎？」、「喝了再上」等等的廣告詞不僅耳熟能詳，大人小孩都能朗朗上口，熬夜加班的上班族、徹夜苦讀的學生，甚至通宵達旦玩樂的人，在精神不濟之時，也會飲用能量提神飲料來振奮一下精神。然而這些號稱能提振精神、迅速恢復體力的飲料真的那麼有效嗎？
能量提神飲料的成分包羅萬象，包括有咖啡因、糖、維生素B群、維生素C、礦物質以及草本萃取物，像是牛磺酸（taurine）、育亨賓（yohimbine）、瓜拿納豆（guarana）及人參等不同原料，有些能量提神飲料強調不含咖啡因，這是因為咖啡因存在於大家最普遍用來提神的咖啡或茶飲當中，容易攝取過量因而發生心悸等症狀，因此我們將能量提神飲料分成不含咖啡因及含咖啡因兩種，來看看能量提神飲料對人體會不會造成傷害，還是會越喝越累呢？
不含咖啡因的能量提神飲料，最主要的成分為維生素B群及牛磺酸等胺基酸，維生素B群是幫助酵素代謝的輔酶，當人處於緊張壓力的情況下（加班或準備考試），能量會加速消耗而導致疲倦，而維生素B群可以提高代謝，快速將碳水化合物、胺基酸等營養素轉換成能量，讓人不會因為缺乏能量而感到疲勞；而牛磺酸是人體非必需的胺基酸，肝臟可自行製造而成，它能降低體內含氮廢物的濃度（例如尿酸），提高氧氣的利用率，改善昏昏欲睡的情況，但牛磺酸需經4～6小時之後才能發揮效用，因此這類的能量提神飲料若強調在短時間能發揮提振精神的功效，主要是由於維生素B群的作用。
雖然維生素B群是水溶性的維生素，很容易經由水分流失，但是過量攝取也有可能會造成頭痛、暈眩、噁心、失眠甚至出現神經病變，再加上維生素B群是肝臟代謝一個很重要的輔酶，一直要肝臟不斷做工，卻沒讓肝臟休息，長期下來很容易造成爆肝的情況發生。
而咖啡因為什麼能夠讓想睡的人不想睡呢？這是因為在大腦中有一種神經傳導物質腺苷（adenosine）與睡眠有關，它在大腦中的濃度會隨著人清醒時間的增長而增加，隨著人睡眠時間的增加而減少，當大腦中的腺苷濃度累積到一定程度後，它會與中樞神經元上面的腺苷受體（adenosine receptor）結合，讓中樞神經元的活動趨緩下來，於是大腦就開始想睡覺，人就會進入睡眠狀態，當腺苷消耗到一定程度，不再與受體結合，神經元又會開始慢慢活躍起來，人也就會從睡眠中慢慢清醒過來。而咖啡因是一種黃嘌呤類化合物，它能穿越「血腦障壁」（BBB）與神經元上的腺苷受體結合，抑制腺苷受體的活性，避免讓中樞神經元的活動減緩，於是中樞神經持續活動，人就不會想睡覺了。
賓州大學（University of Pennsylvania）生物學教授艾貝爾博士（Ted Abel）發表在《神經學期刊》（The Journal of Neuroscience）的研究指出，睡眠被剝奪（Sleep deprivation）的時間越長，大腦中的腺苷濃度也越高，並且會影響到海馬迴的記憶功能出現障礙，也因此腺苷被當作是睡眠債務的生理指標，還好，研究指出這樣的情況是可以回復的。
根據歐盟食品科學專家委員會的建議，每人每日咖啡因攝取量應在300毫克（mg）以下，如果攝取過多的咖啡因則容易出現焦躁不安、心悸、易怒、頻尿、噁心等咖啡因過量症狀，而且咖啡因代謝掉了，腦中的腺苷濃度反倒因為累積更多而造成疲累感更重，顯示咖啡因只能延後睡覺時間，但不能取代或減少所需要的睡眠時間。
咖啡因最容易取得的方式就是來自咖啡或茶飲了，因此消基會訂定市售非罐裝飲料的咖啡因含量需利用紅、黃、綠三種顏色來標示，紅色標示的咖啡因含量為200～300毫克，黃色標示的咖啡因含量為100～200毫克，綠色標示的咖啡因含量為100毫克以下，市售含有咖啡因成分的飲品（包括罐裝咖啡、能量提神飲料）則可參考包裝標示。在此要特別提醒家長，注意家中孩子平時喝的飲料成分，例如可樂或能量提神飲料，尤其要知道包裝標示上的咖啡因總量，因為根據2011年2月份《小兒科》期刊（Pediatrics）一篇研究指出，能量提神飲料可能會導致癲癇、妄想、心臟疾病、及肝腎受損等健康傷害，因此應避免讓青少年飲用，因為16歲的棒球選手不會一天喝3杯咖啡，但有可能會喝上3瓶能量提神飲料，為了避免青少年的健康受到損傷，挪威已經立法禁止15歲以下的兒童飲用能量提神飲料。
短期如果因為工作或者考期將近，需要加班趕專案或熬夜念書，除了可適當、不過量飲用含有咖啡因成分的飲料提神之外，最好從天然食物當中攝取富含維生素B群及胺基酸的食物，包括各種蔬菜水果、瘦肉、乳製品、豆類及堅果類中，都含有不同的維生素B群及胺基酸，因此均衡飲食再加上適時喝一杯咖啡或茶飲就能有助於提神了。
